Cavities

Cavities are the de-mineralized areas—or holes, that form as a result of a bacterial infection on your teeth.  (dental caries).

This infection takes place when the normal healthy bacteria in the mouth are out-numbered by acid-producing bacteria.

Dr. Glickman is able to do much more than the typical "drill-N-fill" cavity fix for you.  Natural color matched fillings are the most popular, but there are several types of fillings we can work with to accomplish the best results for you.  (See Filling Types).  Like if it will be a visible filling, or if it is replacing an old filling.  Plaque is a biofilm on the surfaces of the teeth.

Sore & Bleeding Gums:  Gingivitis - Gum Disease - Periodontal Disease

Exciting, revolutionary Non Surgical advances have been made to the modern dentists approach to Periodontal Disease.

Gum disease (also called Periodontal Disease), is asymptomatic in its early stages (gingivitis and type II periodontitis), it is often painless and difficult to detect visibly.  However, as gum disease advances (types III and IV), gums can appear swollen and red, can bleed easily, and there can be gum recession, pus and tooth mobility, and even loss of teeth.  Regular dental check-ups are vital to detect the changes that indicate the presence of periodontal disease.
Dr. Glickman and her staff use specialized testing to diagnose and stage periodontal disease, and provide several very effective, conservative treatments as an alternative to periodontal flap surgery

These advanced treatments typically provide you with an alternative to surgery - gum surgery - flap surgery.
We help you eliminate your gum infection and return to oral health!  See link below for all the details and more information.

Perio Protect - for Periodontal Disease

One of the Alternatives to Surgery offered by Great-Smile in Duvall, WA

Gum ( periodontal ) disease is a bacterial infection caused by germs. Traditional treatment has been "mechanical" deep root cleaning and gum surgery. This method improves the gums for a while but does not stop the germs from getting reestablished again. Because of the bacterial nature of gum disease, many patients get gum disease back and just refuse to have gum surgery again. Mainly because is is painful and expensive.

Dr. Glickman is one of a few dentists in Washington, who provide the Perio Protect treatment. It is a new healthy method of treating gum problems by applying medicine directly to the gums. It doesn't hurt and is done by the patient at home. Special FDA approved mouth guards are filled with a medicine gel that gets pushed below the gumline.

The medicine kills the germs and allows the gums to heal. Bad breath is eliminated, bleeding and swelling of gums stops. There is no pain and it has a pleasant taste. Patients are excited because most can avoid gum surgery. Perio Protect along with vitamins and nutritional supplements can provide a long term approach to gum disease because it eliminates the cause of the problem, germs.

There are some side effects related to using this oral medicine. They include fresh breath, whiter teeth and happy gums. It's true, the Perio Protect treatment actually whitens teeth because the gel used in the mouth guards is a form of tooth whitener. Additionally, the patient's breath gets fresher because the odor causing germs are wiped out from the medicine gel. Bacteria release gas that creates a bad odor in your mouth. Perio Protect gel is a medicine that destroys the germs and oxygenates the gum tissues. Fresh breath comes from regular use of the gel.

Dental Hygiene

Advancements in Dental Hygiene are making revolutionary improvements in preventative dental therapies.  Dental Hygiene really is "the big picture" encompassing any dental issue.

Believe it - dental hygiene is so much more than getting your teeth cleaned every six months.oralcancertest  Dr. Glickman will customize treatment to your individual needs by using a series of diagnostic tools not found in most dental offices.  We perform fast proficient assessments of your oral health, and make the best recommendations when treatment is indicated.  Hygiene is particularly important for teenagers

Besides the standard screening tests like radiographs (x-rays), Phase contrast microscopyperiodontal pocket depth charting and visual examination, we use a phase-contrast microscope to analyze the oral bacteria, and a Carimeter test to look for cavity causing bacteria.  Recent technological advances allow us to assess saliva for periodontal bacterial culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing and look for genetic markers for periodontal disease.  We feel strongly about regular screening for oral cancer and other tissue abnormalities.  We believe in “minimally invasive” periodontal treatment whenever possible, and try our best to help you avoid surgery.  When periodontal treatment is indicated, we Dental Irrigatorwork with you, and if needed, our team of highly skilled specialists, to assist you in making your decisions regarding treatment options.   We are able to recommend several in-home oral hygiene products to use at your leisure like a dental irrigator for cleaning or application of specific liquid therapies.

Cosmetic Bonding

Direct bonding is a more rapid cosmetic solution that improves the appearance of stained, gapped, chipped or unaligned teeth.  "The color of the bonding material is carefully matched to your other teeth to ensure a truly natural appearance".  Direct bonding provides a cosmetic solution that will last for several years.   DIRECT CHAIR SIDE COMPOSITE RESIN VENEERS (NOT PORCELAIN!) In some cases we use the gum lift, orthodontics, and Resin Veneers made up of layers of material called Resin Composite Bonding for excellent tooth like matching. The composite layers are molded and shaped for the patient's teeth directly in their mouth. Dr. Caron can shape and create the veneers directly in the patient's mouth.  Cosmetic bonding - layered, shaped (micro & macro anatomy + surface texture) - then polished.  Beautiful.           TOP

What can be done to fix a chipped tooth?

A chipped tooth can ruin an otherwise pleasing smile.  Clients with a large chip, who prefer a permanent solution would choose a porcelain veneer or crown, carefully fitted and color-matched to all adjoining teeth.  If the chip is small a quicker - less permanent solution is dental bonding, which can be used.  Either procedure will make your smile appear healthy in one day.     TOP

What about gaps or spaces between teeth?

Gaps between teeth are a common problem.  "Often, teeth are simply too small or narrow for your mouth".  The most beautiful and permanent solution is to affix porcelain veneers to all front teeth.  A more economical solution is to perform cosmetic bonding to all the front teeth, uniformly widening the teeth.  TOP

Cosmetic Contouring

Contouring of your teeth and or gum line are simple procedures that can lead to an improved smile.  Smaller teeth can become larger looking and longer or larger teeth can be shaped in proportion with the others in your smile.   TOP

Crowns | Bridge | Implant | Dentures | Prosthetics

Dental Crowns cover the entire visible surface of your affected tooth and add strength, durability and tooth stability.  Grinding your teeth, an improper bite, age, fillings and tooth decay can all be contributing factors in the wearing down, cracking or breakage of your teeth.

A Dental Bridge is a false tooth or teeth, known as a pontic, which is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth or teeth. The two crowns holding it in place that are attached onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth.
Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.
Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech. Bridges require your commitment to serious oral hygiene, but will last as many ten years or more.

Dental Implants are fixtures of titanium which are surgically screwed into your jaw bone. The implant is an anchor for a naturally-appearing false tooth or a set of false teeth. The success rate of dental implants depends on where the implants are placed and their purpose. They are typically best placed in the front portion of your lower jaw. Implants are great for replacing missing teeth. It is important that you have enough bone in the area of the missing teeth for the implants to be attached to. Implants are not only used to replace one tooth, but rather people missing most, if not all, of their teeth benefit greatly as well. Implants are increasingly being used to replace certain types of bridges and removable partial dentures.  *My Health Report: "What Dental Implants Can Do For You"

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin which at times incorporate porcelain or metal for additional structural support. There are two main types of dentures. Both Complete Dentures and Partial Dentures are finely crafted, custom-fitted. If you properly maintain your dentures they will appear natural and provide a perfect smile. Additionally, dentures help strengthen muscles controlling your expressions that require the support of your teeth, rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing teeth and aid with chewing.

Great-Smile Cosmetic Dental Spa in Duvall, WA can provide you with all your dental needs.

Oral Health and Cardiovascular Disease

There is a growing concern throughout the medical community discussing the
correlation between Oral health and Heart Disease.

  • Several theories exist to explain the link between periodontal disease and heart disease.  One theory is that oral bacteria can affect the heart when they enter the blood stream, attaching to fatty plaques in the coronary arteries (heart blood vessels) and contributing to clot formation.
  • Another possibility is that the inflammation caused by periodontal disease increases plaque build up, which may contribute to swelling of the arteries.
  • Researchers have found that people with periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those without periodontal disease.
  • Additional studies have pointed to a relationship between periodontal disease and stroke.
